Missouri Real Estate Listings - Homes For Sale in Kearney

Perhaps it’s the fresh Missouri countryside or the quiet lifestyle that makes Kearney locals so friendly. With a population of approximately 5,700, Kearney is a small community by most standards. What it lacks in numbers, however, the city makes up for in wholesome personality. The landscape is open and rural, the homes are affordable and the location is surprisingly accessible. Kearney real estate options consist of single-family homes for sale and undeveloped land lots, some with ample acreage accommodating equestrian facilities. Given the peaceful ambience, one might be surprised to learn that Kearney’s most famous resident was the notorious outlaw Jesse James. Locals respect this history and Kearney’s place in American folklore. The city’s heritage is celebrated with the Jesse James Festival, an annual tradition since 1970. Kearney is situated within Clay County where Interstate 35 meets State Route 92. Downtown Kansas City is a short drive away, roughly 25 miles southwest. Most of Kearney’s working population commutes, traveling an average of about 25 minutes to the office. Recreation generally revolves around family activities, including organized sports, community festivals or just relaxing at the park. Nearby, Watkins Woolen Mill State Park provides an expanse of natural grounds to explore. The 1,400-acre, state-run site offers numerous trails where residents can camp, fish, picnick, swim, hike, bike and horseback ride. Nearby Smithville Lake is also a popular place for horseback riding. Public education in Kearney is provided by the award-winning Kearney R-1 School District. The district operates seven school campuses, serving about 3,400 students.
